President?s message – Hello to KAMO members and friends,
This is Kids And Mentors Outdoors President, Mark Walters with my section of the monthly newsletter. The Joe is rapidly coming up.Have you communicated with your young hunter? I feel that early communication, the right clothing and good snacks are critical to “the complete package” for success as a team.
I will be partnering with “Brody” who I met and fished with during last summer?s camping trip at Castle Rock lake and hunting the same farm that I have taken kids to for about 10 years.
There are so many people that need to be thanked for their hard work on The Joe like – Bob and Linda, Rick, especially Kevin, Bob Nicsic for holding a final certification class, ect.ect.
As most of you may know, as of February 1st, I will no longer be President of KAMO. February will mark 19 years at the helm and my mind tells me it is time. I have casually tried to have someone else fill this spot for about 5 years and this time I am sticking to my guns.
I think everyone in KAMO can agree that it will be very cool if we can find someone that wants the position that can fill the position. I will work with this person as long as they want and I am willing to be on the BOD, or maybe not if, it would be better for our new president if I am not.
I think that it is very important to mention how incredible that each and everyone of you is to this organization, together we get the job done every year and have for 19 years this February.

Thank you and Merry Christmas to all!

Mark

Chapter Reports

Baraboo – The Baraboo River Chapter of KAMO held our monthly meeting on November 10th at Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center. There were only a few Mentors present, but we did report over 150 hours spent getting Kids Outdoors in the past month. This was mainly Duck and Youth Deer hunting, with a waterfowl trip to South Dakota included. We made final Joe Hunt preparations, and it sounds like we have a full rooster of 25 Kids. All needed positions are covered plus the meat processing, and we are finalizing the private landowner spots. Craig secured a new 1st Aid Kit that we will bring to the MacKenzie Center. It sounds like Bingo prizes are covered and a Big Thanks to Mark Walters for securing the gun we will use as the Grand Prize for blackout Bingo. If any other Chapter has prizes or items for the Hunters Attic, please bring to the Joe Hunt.

Our Chapter will hold the December meeting during the Joe Hunt Dec 12?14th and we decided to skip the January meeting. Our next scheduled meeting will be 7pm Monday February 9th, 2026 at Rivers Edge.

Happy Fall,

Greg

Coulee – The group met on November 5th for a celebration of the year at Tom Sawyers on French Island. Some useful planning ideas were tossed around. We have begun a winter activity schedule.

Dodge – Hello all. DCC KAMO participated in a LTH with 8 kids having a blast and a special thanks to the Friends of Poynette for supplying the Trailer and the Pheasants. for our chapter supplying the lunch, and to Jerry Q for his handling of all the details that go with a LTH.
Some of our mentors took a few kids deer hunting and my Mentee Austin Rather got himself a really nice Doe. Check out our Facebook page for pictures and future events and activities our chapter has got going on. We are gearing up for the Joe Hunt. We are having an ongoing “Find the Key” contest where we hid a key in a public place and are giving clues out on our Facebook page. One clue per week and every week we will eliminate a city in Dodge county. Something to get parents and their kids outside looking for that key. A gift card is available for the person that finds that key.
Get a kid outside and see what happens. And while you are at it, look for the key. Once again I would like to thank everyone involved with DCC KAMO because everyone of you have made this chapter what it is today. Merry Christmas to everyone. I hope Santa is good to each and every one of you.

Jim Braker.

Northwoods – Hello from the Northwoods!
Well we went right into winter with the snow last week, good timing as we will be giving away X country ski combos for whoever wants them Saturday at Christmas in Florence. I was lucky enough to sit with my 12 year old grandson last week and he harvested a 6 point buck on our property. We have a raffle going for a donated muzzle loader and accessories at the 101 bar and grill. We will be having a meeting with spouses this month and celebrate with pizza for the holidays. Our next event will be in February for ice fishing. Have a safe and fun Holiday season!!

Note to the Public

Did you know that every chapter can use volunteer help and you don't have to become a full fledged mentor to be one? Chapters often have group outings where help is needed chaperoning, demonstrating, cooking, and other. Contact a chapter in your area for details.

Would your community benefit from having a KAMO chapter? KAMO has an offer to provide technical, material, and financial support to newly formed chapters. If you contact Mike - brownmtjc@gmail.com, he can get you some information about that. There is a growing recognition that time spent outdoors is very beneficial to physical and mental health and our children are not getting out there.

Another way to help a KAMO chapter is by donating gently used items such as hoodies, boots, jackets, coats, camoflage or orange clothing, fishing poles and tackle, or anything you or your loved ones no longer have a use for and our kids need. I have learned not to wonder where all this donation stuff is going to go - it is amazing how quickly the pile goes down.

If you have something the KAMO group can use as a raffle or silent auction item, that is yet another way the public can help us.

Simply go into the Wisconsin Chapters page to find a contact for the chapter nearest you.

Mike Brown
