Joe Hunt Preparation Meeting – Monday, September 14th at 7:00 pm at Upham Woods in Wisconsin Dells.

Baraboo – The Baraboo River Chapter held our monthly meeting on Monday July 13th at Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center. Our small group reported over 260 hours of getting kids outside in the past month which included fishing, hiking and our annual campout. We enjoyed reviewing the excellent camping trip that was held June 26?28th at Juneau County park on Castle Rock Lake. Dodge County Conservation and Baraboo River Chapters teamed up again to put this event together. 14 kids, 9 mentors and 4 dogs were blessed with great weather and everybody had a fantastic time. Mark Walters write up for the weekend was in the newspaper on 7-18-2026 for his Outdoorsman Journal. Activities included tubing behind the boat (Big Thanks to Eric & Sarah Berlund), fishing?both from shore and Mark Walter?s boat, paddleboard, kayaking, swimming, bike riding, bean bag games, Bingo, and Dutch Oven cobbler over the campfire. Lots of laughter and smiles throughout the event. Several of the kids helped with cooking & 3 of the boys also completed their Boat Safety Certification on Saturday morning. The Dodge County Chapter put the KAMO trailer to good use and had it packed with gear for the weekend. Reservations have already been set for the 2027 campout.

We will hold the Joe Hunt preparation meeting on September 14th at 7pm at Upham Woods Outdoor Learning Center. Other Chapters should send a representative if participating in The Joe. Kevin Seymour did line up a gun already for the Joe Hunt Bingo in December. Our next meeting will be held on Monday August 10th at Kevin Seymour?s Campfire.

Thanks,

Greg

Coulee – We have been hearing from new people every week, usually inquiring about how they can get involved with our chapter or seeing whether we can come up with an outing for them. We are already pretty busy, so a new outing for a new group is iffy.
This month Mike went to meet with the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters staff. Budget cuts have made their existence challenging. We came up with an evening in the park activity for September 8th to get us restarted. When things were good for the Bigs in past years, KAMO had an office in their building and some of their Bigs brought their littles to many of our activities..
On Thursday, July 2nd, 4 mentors and two volunteers met a homeschool group on the Best Dam Fishing Float. Eight kids joined three parents for assisted fishing. All the kids caught several fish. It was a special day – the weather was iffy, an Amish family blended in with our group, sturgeon were jumping out of the water in dolphin fashion and at times gave kids a battle on their Zebco 202 units that they were unlikely to win. Bluegills, drum, catfish, and two walleye were the main attraction. The walleye were chunky and almost prehistoric looking – like they came off a great or remote fly lake fattened up for fall.
Several mentors went to Youth Outdoor Fest on July 11th to help run stations. There is a list of new people who want to receive our activity mailings.
78 people came to our pontoon rides on the sweltering evening of July 14th.
Monday, July 27th – A mentor assisted the Boys and Girls Club fishing followed by lunch in the Lagoon in the sweltering heat. 40 kids. There were staff from Boys and Girls helping as well. Hottest day of the year.

Dodge – July was an ok month . The Whitetails unlimited sponsored Archery class finished up and the 8 kids had a blast. A big thank you to Whitetails Unlimited for their sponsorship. To All Seasons Archery for teaching the class,Thank you Steve and Val. The R & J Farming and Trucking class will finish this Saturday. Pictures can be seen on our Facebook page. We also had a table at Hunt stock at the Dodge county fairgrounds. We did connect with a few people and have a list of people that might be interested in helping mentor or volunteer at future events activities. A Big Thank you To Pat and Shaun for letting us have a spot. Some of us also volunteered our help at the event and for the first time holding it in the Midwest it was a Hit for sure. August and September are going to be busy. Watch our Facebook page for all the exciting things DCC KAMO will be doing. Get a kid outside and see what happens.

.Meadow Valley ? This chapter met in July and will meet again in October.

Northwoods – Hello From the Northwoods,
It was a great month for us. We had 34 kids out for our Hooked on Fishing event, t-shirts and poles were given out to kids who wanted them. The prop busters had their fundraiser also but the smoke kept alot of the pilots away. They did raise a nice donation for us though.
Pheasants for the fall shoot have been ordered and paid for with the event scheduled for October 17th. I along with my wife and a couple mentors will be taking the Hunter Education Instructor class as we haven’t had local instructors for several years. I was asked by a local girl scout leader this week about borrowing poles to take the troop fishing, of course we will. Our chapter has really gained momentum in the community lately with floats in parades, radio and media posts!! Good things,

Johnny Johnson from Florence, Wi.

Note to the Public

Did you know that every chapter can use volunteer help and you don't have to become a full fledged mentor to be one? Chapters often have group outings where help is needed chaperoning, demonstrating, cooking, and other. Contact a chapter in your area for details.

Would your community benefit from having a KAMO chapter? KAMO has an offer to provide technical, material, and financial support to newly formed chapters. If you contact Mike - brownmtjc@gmail.com, he can get you some information about that. There is a growing recognition that time spent outdoors is very beneficial to physical and mental health and our children are not getting out there.

Another way to help a KAMO chapter is by donating gently used items such as hoodies, boots, jackets, coats, camoflage or orange clothing, fishing poles and tackle, or anything you or your loved ones no longer have a use for and our kids need. I have learned not to wonder where all this donation stuff is going to go - it is amazing how quickly the pile goes down.

If you have something the KAMO group can use as a raffle or silent auction item, that is yet another way the public can help us.

Simply go into the Wisconsin Chapters page to find a contact for the chapter nearest you.
