KAMO – September, 2019 Newsletter
Hello to all KAMO members and friends!
This is KAMO President Mark Walters with my part of the Newsletter. On September 24th we held our annual fall BOD meeting which was completed by teleconference. Our meeting was stress free and simple as things seem to be running quite well these days for our organization.
The most important points would be preparation for The Joe, a three fold increase in our insurance, and though we do not dwell on it, the hope of getting more mentors on board for each chapter.
This coming weekend is Wisconsin’s Youth Gun/Deer hunt. I will be camping and taking a young hunter to a farm in Wood County and I have to say that I really enjoy this hunt every year whether a deer is harvested or not. The warmer temps and carefree attitude make for an excellent adventure. I know that Meadow Valley and Coulee both have group hunts
planned and my friends that is why we do what we do in KAMO!
In closing I want to elaborate on how I ended our teleconference. Though it seems challenging and sometimes time consuming to be a KAMO mentor, look at what we accomplish as a group in a years time. and at what we have accomplished since 2007.

The site has been visited about 230 times the past month. A new version of the Mentor Background Check Form was added to the enrollment forms page which is under the ?Additional Information? header on the homepage. This allows the new person to pull up and type the form on their computer, print it, sign it, and forward it to the state security officer. The new form will include a statement acknowledging that the information will be shared with a third party (the background check organization). Our background check company is now requiring evidence that an applicant is aware that/ agrees that a third party will view their personal information. Please discard any copies of the original version.

Highlights of B.O.D. Teleconference – State balance is $20,730.37.
There was a discussion regarding our liability insurance through SECURA. As a result of the recent inquiry by their underwriter, our policy went up from $1700 – Undetermined but higher/ yr. This will not impact future dues payments. This increase was mainly due to our expansion over the past several years. Over that same period of time, several coverages have been excluded. If you are interested in knowing what these are, please contact Mike, and he will forward you the information. We have been shopping around for another carrier, and so far have found only one other company willing to insure us. .

– Mentor forms should be sent early. In the case of the kid forms, they can be sent just prior to the hunt
Dues waiver for Yellow River – The B.O.D.voted to allow until 2021 for this very active new chapter to develop before being faced with paying dues.
Background checks – There has been a new Mentor Background Check Form developed in response to a new Intellicorp requirement to provide evidence of a tentative mentor?s willingness to allow a third party (them) to access the applicant?s personal information.I tried to add this form to the website as I have many other links. That is not working, so I?ll have to send you any future background check forms electronically until the web design place puts the form on there.Please destroy any existing blank Mentor Background Check Forms you have.
Potential Officer Position Changes – The state secretary position is open. Keep in mind I took this role on after the previous one left the group. It is an easy job and I will provide support to the new person in the role. In fact, someone can be my assistant for awhile until they feel comfortable in the position. I am the Coulee president and secretary, state webmaster, and have come out of retirement to work here and there. I am also active with volunteering with two other groups.
Mark has stated that he would prefer that someone else took over as state president so that he can devote more time to his writing career, family, farming, and life.
The position has both responsibility and prestige attached to it. Whoever steps into this role will also receive plenty of support from others.
Annual Statewide Convention – Will meet somewhere in Stevens Point other than where we were last year on Saturday, 3-21-2020
General –
Some people expressed interest in adding boat liability coverage to KAMO?s overall liability policy. If you feel that your chapter has an insurance need in this area, please contact Mike. The insurance company will need to know the type of craft, frequency of outing, number of participants. If we do this, it will be in March.
Mentors will need to send in their mentor forms for the McKenzie hunt soon for planning purposes. This form should show up as scan0017.jpg in your computer?s storage.. The child forms are scan0018 and 19 and can be turned in closer to the event. If you can?t find it, Mike or Mark can forward it to you.
Baraboo –
The Baraboo Chapter had its most recent meeting on Sept 9. We are back at the Rivers Edge Resort now that the tourist season has slowed down. Couple of our mentors got out with some kids for the youth duck hunt with some shooting and a few ducks down. Most of the meeting involved the Joe Hunt as this is the time of year when this hunt becomes the main focus. Getting things coordinated between 5 chapters, land owners, DNR, and the MacKenzie Center is a big project, but well worth it. Again, I need our list of this years mentors by early November. If they are a first time mentor, make sure they complete the DNR background check. So many things to get out and do this time of year. Tradition Forward

Coulee had a rod and gun club outing on September 8th for participants of an upcoming pheasant and deer hunt. Two mentors and a DMAP landowner scouting areas to place blinds for the the youth deer gun hunt. Four mentors, a parent, a volunteer, and four kids traveled to Woodsand Meadows on Saturday, September 21st to shoot at a variety of clay pigeon setups. Later the group took 12 pigeons to a nearby field to hunt over dogs. Seven birds lived to tell the tale.
Lake Wisconsin – No report
Meadow Valley – The Meadow Valley Chapter is all set to go on their Youth Hunt out the Bigalke properties on October 5 th and 6 th . 8 youth will be participating in the hunt and will get to enjoy the hunt, some campfire fun, and also experience processing of the deer harvested. This has been a very wet year, especially the week leading up to the hunt, but we hope to brave the elements and make it a successful experience for the kids. We also have our raffle all set to go and tickets on order. We have been working with a local gun shop for the past couple of years and they have been extremely gracious in helping us out. This year I believe we have our best line up of prizes yet! On the future calendar we have also planned a pheasant hunt for November 8 th this year. This will be our first year doing this and look forward to the new activity.

We held our third annual Senior Outing on Saturday, September 7th. We were able to get nine people from the Florence Living Center to grace the fishing dock on Fisher Lake. Unfortunately, we could not get the fish to grace the bait.
We still got a nice day outdoors, with two ladies being of the centurion club as our most senior to date. Lunch, tee shirts and plenty of thank you’s rounded out the early afternoon.
Saturday, October 5th, was our twelfth annual pheasant shoot. Fifteen boys showed their shooting skills on clays, birds, lunch, more clays and shooting and shooting and more shooting. The weather gods held off till one o’clock, so packing up was a bit soggy and cool at 45 degrees. Early preview of ice fishing.
We were blessed with three dogs this year and got some involvement from the 4H group in Iron Mountain, Mi. We are going to pursue joining forces for 2020 and see if we can expand this outing to a higher level and or join into some of their events.
That’s it for October and November. Next meeting on December 11th, where rumor has it that Santa (Mark Walters) will be handing out 64 inch flat screen TVs to his fellow KAMO members.

This has been a very wet year, especially the week leading up to the hunt, but we hope to brave the elements and make it a successful experience for the kids. We also have our raffle all set to go and tickets on order. We have been working with a local gun shop for the past couple of years and they have been extremely gracious in helping us out. This year I believe we have our best line up of prizes yet! On the future calendar we have also planned a pheasant hunt for November 8 th this year. This will be our first year doing this and look forward to the new activity.

Northwoods –
We held our third annual Senior Outing on Saturday, September 7th. We were able to get nine people from the Florence Living Center to grace the fishing dock on Fisher Lake. Unfortunately, we could not get the fish to grace the bait.
We still got a nice day outdoors, with two ladies being of the centurion club as our most senior to date. Lunch, tee shirts and plenty of thank you’s rounded out the early afternoon.
Saturday, October 5th, was our twelfth annual pheasant shoot. Fifteen boys showed their shooting skills on clays, birds, lunch, more clays and shooting and shooting and more shooting. The weather gods held off till one o’clock, so packing up was a bit soggy and cool at 45 degrees. Early preview of ice fishing.
We were blessed with three dogs this year and got some involvement from the 4H group in Iron Mountain, Mi. We are going to pursue joining forces for 2020 and see if we can expand this outing to a higher level and or join into some of their events.
That’s it for October and November. Next meeting on December 11th, where rumor has it that Santa (Mark Walters) will be handing out 64 inch flat screen TVs to his fellow KAMO members.

KAMO – September, 2019 Newsletter
Hello to all KAMO members and friends!
This is KAMO President Mark Walters with my part of theNewsletter. On September 24th we held our annual fall BOD meeting which was completed by teleconference. Our meeting was stress free and simple as things seem to be running quite well these days for our organization.
The most important points would be preparation for The Joe, a three fold increase in our insurance, and though we do not dwell on it, the hope of getting more mentors on board for each chapter.
This coming weekend is Wisconsin’s Youth Gun/Deer hunt. I will be camping and taking a young hunter to a farm in Wood County and I have to say that I really enjoy this hunt every year whether a deer is harvested or not. The warmer temps and carefree attitude make for an excellent adventure. I know that Meadow Valley and Coulee both have group hunts
planned and my friends that is why we do what we do in KAMO!
In closing I want to elaborate on how I ended our teleconference. Though it seems challenging and sometimes time consuming to be a KAMO mentor, look at what we accomplish as a group in a years time. and at what we have accomplished since 2007.

The site has been visited about 230 times the past month. A new version of the Mentor Background Check Form was added to the enrollment forms page which is under the ?Additional Information? header on the homepage. This allows the new person to pull up and type the form on their computer, print it, sign it, and forward it to the state security officer. The new form will include a statement acknowledging that the information will be shared with a third party (the background check organization). Our background check company is now requiring evidence that an applicant is aware that/ agrees that a third party will view their personal information. Please discard any copies of the original version.

Highlights of B.O.D. Teleconference – State balance is $20,730.37.
There was a discussion regarding our liability insurance through SECURA. As a result of the recent inquiry by their underwriter, our policy went up from $1700 – Undetermined but higher/ yr. This will not impact future dues payments. This increase was mainly due to our expansion over the past several years. Over that same period of time, several coverages have been excluded. If you are interested in knowing what these are, please contact Mike, and he will forward you the information. We have been shopping around for another carrier, and so far have found only one other company willing to insure us. .
McKenzie Hunt
– Mentor forms should be sent early. In the case of the kid forms, they can be sent just prior to the hunt
Dues waiver for Yellow River – The B.O.D.voted to allow until 2021 for this very active new chapter to develop before being faced with paying dues.
Background checks – There has been a new Mentor Background Check Form developed in response to a new Intellicorp requirement to provide evidence of a tentative mentor?s willingness to allow a third party (them) to access the applicant?s personal information.I tried to add this form to the website as I have many other links. That is not working, so I?ll have to send you any future background check forms electronically until the web design place puts the form on there.Please destroy any existing blank Mentor Background Check Forms you have.
Potential Officer Position Changes – The state secretary position is open. Keep in mind I took this role on after the previous one left the group. It is an easy job and I will provide support to the new person in the role. In fact, someone can be my assistant for awhile until they feel comfortable in the position. I am the Coulee president and secretary, state webmaster, and have come out of retirement to work here and there. I am also active with volunteering with two other groups.
Mark has stated that he would prefer that someone else took over as state president so that he can devote more time to his writing career, family, farming, and life.
The position has both responsibility and prestige attached to it. Whoever steps into this role will also receive plenty of support from others.
Annual Statewide Convention – Will meet somewhere in Stevens Point other than where we were last year on Saturday, 3-21-2020
General –
Some people expressed interest in adding boat liability coverage to KAMO?s overall liability policy. If you feel that your chapter has an insurance need in this area, please contact Mike. The insurance company will need to know the type of craft, frequency of outing, number of participants. If we do this, it will be in March.
Mentors will need to send in their mentor forms for the McKenzie hunt soon for planning purposes. This form should show up as scan0017.jpg in your computer?s storage.. The child forms are scan0018 and 19 and can be turned in closer to the event. If you can?t find it, Mike or Mark can forward it to you.
Baraboo –
The Baraboo Chapter had its most recent meeting on Sept 9. We are back at the Rivers Edge Resort now that the tourist season has slowed down. Couple of our mentors got out with some kids for the youth duck hunt with some shooting and a few ducks down. Most of the meeting involved the Joe Hunt as this is the time of year when this hunt becomes the main focus. Getting things coordinated between 5 chapters, land owners, DNR, and the MacKenzie Center is a big project, but well worth it. Again, I need our list of this years mentors by early November. If they are a first time mentor, make sure they complete the DNR background check. So many things to get out and do this time of year. Tradition Forward
Coulee –
Coulee had a rod and gun club outing on September 8th for participants of an upcoming pheasant and deer hunt. Two mentors and a DMAP landowner scouting areas to place blinds for the the youth deer gun hunt. Four mentors, a parent, a volunteer, and four kids traveled to Woodsand Meadows on Saturday, September 21st to shoot at a variety of clay pigeon setups. Later the group took 12 pigeons to a nearby field to hunt over dogs. Seven birds lived to tell the tale.
Lake Wisconsin – No report
Meadow Valley – The Meadow Valley Chapter is all set to go on their Youth Hunt out the Bigalke properties on October 5 th and 6 th . 8 youth will be participating in the hunt and will get to enjoy the hunt, some campfire fun, and also experience processing of the deer harvested.
